E-Filing

All new and existing estates and trust case types are now available for e-filing. E-filing of estates and trust cases will be mandatory beginning May 12, 2025. The court will no longer accept paper filings in all existing and newly filed estate and trust cases after Friday, May 9, 2025.

Please note, if you open a full estate with the minimum deposit of $125, you will be required to add an addition deposit prior to receiving letters of authority.

**If you already have a case pending before the court, please do not file a new case in e-filing. Rather choose the Existing Cases option, enter the Case Number, and click the eFile button.

All Adoption, Civil, Estates, Trusts, Name Change and Involuntary civil Commitment case documents must be submitted through the Franklin County e-Filing System

Frequently Asked Questions About e-Filing

Who can e-File?

Any person who registers as a filer in the Franklin County Probate Court’s e-Filing System and agrees to abide by the Court’s Administrative Order can e-File, unless otherwise ordered by the Court. All pleadings requiring a new case number or the payment of Court costs shall be filed by 4:30 p.m.

Do I need special software to e-File?

You need the ability to save your documents into Portable Document Format (PDF) and MS Word (.doc, .docx) for proposed orders/entries. Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 provide this capability. Various free software downloads that enable PDF conversion are available through the Internet.

Do I need special hardware to e-File?

A computer, Internet connection and an e-mail address are needed to e-File. In order to file documents that are not in PDF or MS Word (.doc, .docx) format you may need an optical scanner.

Can I e-File all Probate Court case types?

Currently e-filing is mandatory in Adoption, Civil, Involuntary Civil Commitments, Name Change, and some miscellaneous case types. The Court is diligently working towards e-filing for all other case types, including Estates and Guardianships in the first half of 2025.
