Ohio's New Compliant DL-ID Driver License & the Probate Court

If your current full name is NOT the same as the name on your birth certificate, proof of how the name changed must be presented to the Ohio BMV to apply for Ohio's DL-ID Compliant Driver License.
The Franklin County Probate Court may be able to help you obtain the documents neccessary for the new Compliant DL-ID Driver License.


Problem: Your name changed because of marriage.
Solution: Retrieve a certified copy of your Franklin County marriage abstract from the Franklin County Probate Court.

Problem: The name you use does not match the name on your birth certificate.
Solution: If you have been a Franklin County resident forthe past 12 months, you may apply for a name change at the Franklin County Probate Court.

Problem: I don’t know what’s on my birth certificate.
Solution: Order a certified copy of an Ohio birth certificate from the Ohio Department of Vital Statistics.
