Judge Montgomery believes his employees should not have to decide solely between family and career when balancing responsibilities. In support of this philosophy, he created a job-sharing program in the Franklin County Probate Court when he took office in 2011. This arrangement enables two employees to “share” a 40-hour position by each contributing 20 hours of work on a part-time basis. As a result, employees who wish to work less than full time due to family obligations have the opportunity to continue working without requiring that individual to work a fulltime schedule. Judge Montgomery would rather have the right employee for twenty hours than the wrong one for forty, and this innovative program has allowed the Franklin County Probate Court to retain a high quality of professional employees to serve the public.
